Established in 1978, the Association of Canadian Universities for Northern Studies (ACUNS) is a registered charitable organization operating in Ottawa with volunteer representatives at member institutions across the country. ACUNS plays a leadership role in promoting a diverse and comprehensive understanding of the territorial and provincial North through the facilitation of collaborative research, knowledge mobilization and education, most notably through our awards program.

Making an investment in ACUNS means that we can continue to support the future of northern
Canada through our programs and services we offer:

  • A network for students: The ACUNS Student Conference on Northern Studies, a triennial event
    since 1986.
  • Financial support: The ACUNS Awards Program, supported by the Canadian Northern Studies
Trust, now in its 41st cycle.
  • Expertise: An impressive 700+ awards alumni, spanning the circumpolar north.
  • Engagement: Our commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion through initiatives such as the
“Arctic Science to Art” knowledge mobilization contest partnership with APECS Canada.
  • A voice and platform for 30-plus member institutions in our council.

Without your support, we risk losing these valuable programs.
