Established in 1978, the Association of Canadian Universities for Northern Studies (ACUNS) is a registered charitable organization operating in Ottawa with volunteer representatives at member institutions across the country. ACUNS plays a leadership role in promoting a diverse and comprehensive understanding of the territorial and provincial North through the facilitation of collaborative research, knowledge mobilization and education, most notably through our awards program.

- A network for students: The ACUNS Student Conference on Northern Studies, a triennial event
since 1986. - Financial support: The ACUNS Awards Program, supported by the Canadian Northern Studies
Trust, now in its 41st cycle. - Expertise: An impressive 700+ awards alumni, spanning the circumpolar north.
- Engagement: Our commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion through initiatives such as the
“Arctic Science to Art” knowledge mobilization contest partnership with APECS Canada. - A voice and platform for 30-plus member institutions in our council.
