Northern Research to be recognized with annual $50,000 Weston Family Prize for Lifetime Achievement in Northern Research

The Association of Canadian Universities for Northern Studies (ACUNS) is pleased to announce the launch of an annual $50,000 prize for lifetime achievement in northern natural science research, initiated and generously supported by The W. Garfield Weston Foundation.  The Weston Family Prize for Lifetime Achievement in Northern Research will be the largest monetary prize recognizing significant contributions by an individual to research in the Canadian north. ACUNS is pleased to administer the Weston Family Prize as a continuation of their longstanding work with The W. Garfield Weston Foundation.

The inaugural Weston Family Prize will be presented by the Churchill Northern Studies Centre (CNSC) located in Churchill, Manitoba, as part of a special ceremony celebrating the grand opening of the new CNSC.

Call for Nominations
Nominations for the prize will be accepted from December 7, 2010 to February 28, 2011.  Details of the nomination process can be found here.

The successful candidate must have demonstrated leadership, inspiration, and mentorship in research in the Canadian north, and must be presently active in and demonstrate a sustained program of northern scientific research. An esteemed panel of peer researchers will select the recipient and the President of ACUNS will Chair the Adjudication Committee.
